Metal Element Qigong

Form | Theory | Practices | Attunement

Metal is associated with refinement, clarity, discernment and the movement between taking in and letting go. In the Five Element system, it is connected with the Lungs and Large Intestine and with the rhythms of receiving, transforming and releasing.

This module gives you a way to explore Metal through several layers of practice. You’ll learn a Qigong form while also exploring the theory and philosophy of the element, its relationship with the organs and meridians, and the ways it appears through nature, food, taste, emotion and patterns of imbalance.

Alongside the form, we work with practices including acupressure, meditation and energetic attunement, giving you different ways to engage with the qualities of Metal.

What this develops

  • A deeper understanding of the qualities and principles of Metal

  • Greater familiarity with the relationship between Metal and the wider Five Element system

  • Sensitivity to the qualities of Metal through movement, practice and direct experience

  • An understanding of how Metal can be recognised through the body, emotions, environment and everyday life

  • A foundation for deeper exploration of the Five Elements through practice and attunement

Feeling the Nature of Metal

The Five Elements are not simply a system of theory or a way of categorising the organs, emotions and seasons. They describe qualities of Qi that can be encountered directly through practice.

In this module, you begin to explore Metal not only through its movements and theory, but through attunement. Through Qigong practice, meditation and specific energetic practices, you’re invited to become more sensitive to the quality and frequency of Metal and to recognise how it feels in your own experience.

This is an important part of developing energy skill. Qigong is not simply gentle movement or a way of moving the body slowly. It is a practice of working with Qi, and developing that skill requires us to become increasingly perceptive. We need to learn to notice what we are experiencing, distinguish between different qualities and develop a more refined relationship with frequency.

The Metal module gives you a place to begin developing that sensitivity. The more familiar you become with the qualities of Metal, the more you can begin to recognise them through practice, within yourself and in the world around you.
