Neigong Essentials

Developing Internal Skill

Neigong translates as “internal skill”. It is the practice of developing the capacity to work with Qi from within, refining the relationship between the body, breath, attention and internal energy.

This module introduces the foundational practices of Neigong, giving you a first experience of working with Qi in a more deliberate and internally focused way. Rather than simply moving Qi through the body, these practices begin to develop the internal connection, stability and awareness that support deeper Neigong practice.

The practices in this module provide an important foundation for ongoing internal cultivation, giving you the skills and understanding to begin developing your relationship with Qi from within.

What this develops

  • A deeper understanding of Qi from the perspective of internal development

  • An understanding of the relationship between mind, Qi and somatic memory

  • An introduction to Ting, the practice of listening with Qi

  • A foundation in absorption and awareness of the Huang

  • Foundational experience with practices of Sink the Field, Absorption and Compressing the Dantian

Developing Internal Skill

Neigong asks us to turn our attention inward. Rather than working primarily with movement and physical structure, we begin to explore what is happening beneath the surface: how Qi moves, how the mind influences Qi, and how the body holds and communicates what we have experienced.

In this module, you’ll begin to explore some of the fundamental principles of internal development, including Ting, absorption, the Huang and the relationship between mind, Qi and somatic memory. The practices of Sink the Field, Absorption and Compressing the Dantian give you a direct way to begin experiencing these principles rather than simply understanding them intellectually.

Neigong is about developing a different kind of attention and learning to perceive what is already happening within the body and energetic field. These foundational practices begin to develop the internal skills that support deeper Neigong practice.

If you’re curious about what lies beyond the more familiar forms of Qigong and want to explore the internal dimensions of practice, Neigong Essentials offers a place to begin.
