Shen Gong & Heartmind Development

Cultivating Heartmind

Shen Gong brings our attention to the Middle Dantian and the cultivation of the heart-mind (Xin). While many Qigong practices work primarily with the physical and vital aspects of the body, Shen Gong turns our attention towards the inner life: how we think, feel, perceive and respond.

The aim is not to create a particular state or become someone different. Through practice, we become more familiar with the movements of the heart-mind and develop the clarity to recognise what is actually happening within us.

This introductory module explores foundational Daoist principles including Xin, Xing, Yuan Shen and Ming, alongside practices such as Balancing the Three Treasures and Divine Tranquility. It provides a starting point for Shen Gong and the deeper cultivation of the heart-mind.

What this develops

  • Greater awareness of the relationship between thought, feeling and perception

  • A deeper familiarity with the heart-mind and its movements

  • The ability to recognise habitual patterns and responses with greater clarity

  • Greater stability and presence within your inner experience

  • A foundation for deeper study of Shen Gong and heart-mind cultivation

Turning inward

Shen Gong brings our attention inward, towards the heart-mind and the qualities that shape our inner experience. Rather than working primarily through physical movement, the practice asks us to become more attentive to thought, feeling, perception and the subtle movements of the heart-mind.

Through practices such as Balancing the Three Treasures and Divine Tranquility, you begin to develop a quieter and more attentive relationship with yourself. With practice, you become more familiar with the movements of the heart-mind and the ways your thoughts, feelings and perceptions influence your experience.

As this familiarity develops, you begin to recognise patterns that may otherwise remain beneath your awareness. The practice gives you an opportunity to meet these patterns with greater clarity rather than simply being carried by them.

This introductory module provides a starting point for Shen Gong and the cultivation of the heart-mind, opening into deeper exploration as your practice develops.
